Sourwood Festival 2026

Saturday, August 8, 2026 12:00 AM - Sunday, August 9, 2026 12:00 AM (EDT)

Description

The Sourwood Festival A Sweet Tradition in the Heart of the Mountains Since 1977, the Sourwood Festival has been a beloved summer tradition in historic Black Mountain, North Carolina. What began as a local celebration of the sourwood honey harvest has grown into a vibrant, weekend-long event that draws more than 30,000 visitors each year. Sourwood honey—harvested from the blossoms of the native sourwood tree found in the Southern Appalachian region—remains at the heart of the festival. But today, it’s much more than just honey. The Sourwood Festival is a joyful celebration of arts, culture, crafts, music, and food. With hundreds of vendors, live performances, a dedicated kid zone, and a welcoming small-town atmosphere, it’s the perfect way to experience the charm of Black Mountain and the creativity of the community. Admission is free, and all are welcome to join us for this one-of-a-kind celebration in the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
This will be Sweet Abode Artisan Soap's 3rd year on Cherry Street!

How to Access the Orchard at Alta Pass

The Orchard at Altapass is located at 1025 Orchard Road, Spruce Pine, NC 28777, just off the Blue Ridge Parkway at milepost 328.3. There are currently two recommended routes to access the orchard:

From 19E Eastward (Spruce Pine area):

  • Turn right on Altapass Hwy (4.5 miles)
  • Turn right onto Blue Ridge Parkway (1.0 mile)
  • Turn left onto Orchard Road, then turn right toward the Red Barn and parking area

From Highway 226 (Marion area):

  • Follow 226 toward Spruce Pine
  • Turn right onto the Blue Ridge Parkway exit, followed by a left onto the Parkway (3 miles)

Important Note for RVs, Buses, and Extended Vehicles: Large and extended vehicles must access the Blue Ridge Parkway using the 19E Eastward route to avoid a dangerous hairpin turn near the Orchard entrance.
