Caring for Your Soap: Make It Last Longer

The Golden Rule: Keep It Dry Between Uses
Natural soap loves to stay dry when it's not in use. This one habit can double or even triple your bar's lifespan.

Storage Solutions That Work
Use a well-draining soap dish. Choose one with slats, holes, or ridges that let water drain away completely — avoid dishes where water pools.
Try the two-bar method. Keep two bars in rotation: while one is in use, let the other dry completely. This can extend each bar's life by up to 50%.
Mind the location. Store your soap away from direct shower spray — a shelf or ledge works better than the tub's edge, where water constantly splashes.
Use a mesh soap saver. Sweet Abode's mesh soap savers let you use every bit of your bar while adding gentle exfoliation and excellent drainage.

Travel & Long-Term Storage
Let your soap dry completely before packing it in a travel container.
For long-term storage, keep unused bars in a cool, dry place — they actually improve with age, like a fine wine.
Wrap stored bars in breathable paper, not plastic, to preserve their quality.

Signs of Happy Soap
Your bar should feel firm and dry between uses. If it turns soft or develops a gel-like coating, it needs better drainage — simply move it to a drier spot and it will firm back up.

Zero-Waste Tip
When your bar wears down to a sliver, press it onto a new bar while both are wet. No waste, and you get to keep enjoying your favorite scent.

With proper care, your handcrafted soap will deliver weeks of luxurious, skin-nourishing cleansing while holding on to its fragrance and beneficial properties from first use to last.

How to Use

Getting Started
Wet your hands or body with warm water — not hot, since heat can strip away the soap's natural glycerin and beneficial oils. Work the bar between your palms for 5–10 seconds to build a rich, creamy lather. Handcrafted soap naturally produces a gentler lather than commercial bars, which means better moisturizing for your skin.

For Body Use
Apply the lather directly to your skin in circular motions, or transfer it to a washcloth or loofah for gentle exfoliation. Take a moment to enjoy the natural fragrance while the nourishing oils do their work. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat skin dry to lock in moisture.

For Facial Use
Use a lighter touch than you would on your body. Massage the lather gently over damp skin in small circular motions, avoiding the eye area, then rinse with cool to lukewarm water. Follow with your usual moisturizer to seal in hydration.

For Hand Washing
Roll the bar between wet hands until you've built a good lather, cleanse for about 20 seconds, then rinse clean. The soap's natural glycerin helps offset the drying effect of frequent hand washing.
